It’s been pretty cold around here lately, even though we are in the middle of April. With all this free time from being on lock down even in the cold I’ve been going for walks with my dog. After those walks though I’m always cold and ready for something warm to drink. I’ve been making a bunch of different hot drinks, especially hot cocoas and also coffee drinks.
This is delicious and creamy cocoa with a little bit of spice to it. There’s just enough spice to make it more interesting than your normal hot cocoa recipe.
Hot cocoa is so easy to make that I suggest you make your own instead of buying hot cocoa mix. Homemade is so much tastier and less processed, you know exactly what you are drinking, and only takes about five minutes to make.
Mexican Hot Cocoa Recipe
1 1/2 cups milk
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 Tablespoon cocoa powder
1 Tablespoon chocolate chips
1 Tablespoon heavy cream (optional)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Whipped cream (optional)
Directions:
1.) Combine the milk, brown sugar, vanilla, cocoa powder, heavy cream, and cinnamon in a stove top safe pan. I suggest adding the heavy cream for a little added creaminess, it is totally fine to not add it. There just won’t be as much silkiness to your hot cocoa but will still taste great!
2.) Heat on medium, while whisking continuously until nice and warm, about 3 mins.
3.) Add the chocolate chips until melted.
4.) Take off of heat, pour in cup, if wanted add whipped cream. That’s it! Time to enjoy!
