Brownie Layer Dessert

A dessert easy enough that anyone can make! The homemade brownie is a rich chocolatey flavor, with a dense fudgy texture. The pudding layers add a light and airiness to the dessert, while still being decadent and rich.

The brownie recipe uses oil instead of butter to create a denser texture. If using butter in brownies it will create a cake like texture. Usually cornstarch is used to just thicken liquid, but in this recipe, it helps keep the brownies moist. While you can use a boxed brownie, these are superior in my opinion based on the amount of cocoa powder in them. It will be a thin layer of brownie so that there is plenty of room for pudding.

Start by making the brownies, in a mixing bowl whisk all the dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl mix together the wet ingredients. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mix and stir until fully combined. In a 9×13 greased pan, pour in brownie batter, bake for 22-26 minutes at 375°. Let cool and start on pudding.

All you must do is mix up the puddings as directed on the box. Start with the vanilla pudding and layer onto the brownies. Crumble up the Oreos into fine pieces. Sprinkle onto the vanilla layer, and then top with the chocolate layer. Finishing with the cool whip and then more Oreos.

Brownie Layer Dessert

Brownie Layer:

¾ cup white sugar

½ cup brown sugar, packed

¾ cup cocoa powder

3 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup flour

1 Tablespoon cornstarch

½ cup oil

Pudding Layers:

1 small box vanilla pudding

1 small box chocolate pudding

1 (16 ounce) container cool whip

20 Oreos

4 cups milk (for pudding)

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°. In bowl, combine sugars, cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, salt, corn starch. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, vanilla, and oil. Pour the liquid into the dry mix and then stir to fully combine. Pour the brownie batter into a 9×13 greased pan. Bake the brownies for 22-26 minutes or until a toothpick is inserted and comes out clean. Let cool.
  • Whisk vanilla pudding and 2 cups of milk together as instructed on box, fold in 4 ounces or 1/4th of the container of cool whip. Do the same with the chocolate pudding, using another 4 ounces or 1/4th of the container. Crush up the Oreos into fine crumbs.
  • Layer the vanilla pudding on top of the brownie. Sprinkle half of the Oreos crumbs onto the pudding. Next, layer the chocolate pudding and then the cool whip on top. Sprinkle with the remaining Oreos. Place the dessert into the fridge for 4 hours to let set and meld together.

Enjoy!

Serves 12-15 based on the size of the pieces you cut.
